As a holistic nutritionist and ex technician, I’m fascinated by ElectroMedicine…The PEMF Mat (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy, is at the intersection between medicine and technology. It’s impressive, the potential health benefits: reduced inflammation and pain, better sleep, less fatigue, more energy, faster injury recovery and can even help with cancer. So let’s get into it!

What is a PEMF Mat?

A PEMF mat utilizes pulsed electromagnetic field technology to essentially bathe you in a gentle electromagnetic field, aimed at rejuvenating your your body at a cellular level. Some companies even add infrared technology to the PEMF mat to help boost it’s therapeutic effects. Users across the globe hail it’s health benefits like pain relief, reduced inflammation, improved sleep, and more. Honestly if you can afford it, it’s worth the meagre investment, if your suffering from pain, or any of the listed health issues.

The Science Behind PEMF Mats

Let’s get a bit deeper into the technology…PEMF mats generate electromagnetic fields, similar to the natural ones produced by our planet. These fields pulse throughout your body, which is said to help rejuvenate and detox your cells. Think of it as a cellular-level spa treatment.

A Brief History of PEMF

PEMF isn’t a newfangled concept. Its roots can be traced back to the 19th century, with the help of scientists like Michael Faraday who pioneered research on the science electromagnetism. In the 20th century, figures like Nikola Tesla explored the therapeutic potentials of electromagnetic fields. However, the medical application of PEMF gained real momentum in the 1950s and 1960s. More specifically Dr. Bassett’s work in the 1970s, led to FDA approval for using electromagnetic fields in healing bone fractures.

From a Holistic Nutritionist (& Ex Technicians) Lens

The body is a magnificent machine, capable of healing any and all disease, if given the right nutrients and conditions…however when we’ve neglected our bodies to the point that they’ve fallen into a state of disfunction, illness and disease, that is when modern innovations in electromedicine, like the PEMF mat can strengthen the bodies own ability to heal, and help create the environment to foster proper cellular function and optimal health.

What it comes down to is…if you are suffering from chronic pain, cancer, arthritis, poor sleep or just want to reduce inflammation which can help with most disease…then personally as long as I can afford it, I’d certainly buy a PEMF mat. Why? Because I’d want every tool in my toolkit if it means feeling better and improving my health.

User Experiences & Testimonials

There are many testimonials hailing PEMF therapy – from healing athletes injuries to helping to relieve chronic pain. And while there is some research showing the health benefits of PEMF therapy for certain applications, the mainstream medical community largely disapproves of such a device, and cautions that it has no scientific backing for it’s purported health benefits. So depending on which camp you follow – mainstream medicine and big pharma or traditional or alternative medicine…you may either be intrigued and want to learn more, or would rather avoid it altogether…the choice of course is yours.

A Word of Caution

I must of course point out that While PEMF therapy shows promise and is a very safe (external) therapy, It’s vital to consult with healthcare providers before trying new treatments, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. A perfect example would be if you have any existing biomedical devices like a pacemaker.

Final Thoughts | Conclusion

The PEMF mat is a technological marvel, with some scientific principle on the use of electromagnetic therapy and research showing it’s benefit for certain applications, but many of the benefits that users testify to are not supported by research. The device is quite safe and has a low risk of side effects for most individuals, but you should of course consult a healthcare provider if you have pre-existing health conditions. While many people have testified to it helping with their chronic pain, cancer, sleep and more it’s not supported by mainstream medicine, who cautions against it’s use. But if you are suffering and have the budget, it’s a great tool to add to your wellness toolkit.
